With the pressures of work and family, we know that families of all walks of life need support and encouragement. We know parents want to do the best job for their kids as possible, but some don't know where to start or how to start. In an effort to help families raise children who are safe, healthy, eager to learn and ready to succeed by the time they enter school, we have developed this part of our site as a resource for families.

    Oklahoma's Priority Academic Student Skills serve as a set of specific school academic standards covering all areas of a student's growth: language, mathematics, social studies and the arts - download it here.

  • Smart Start Parent Guide

    In a major statewide effort to address the healthy development of young children, Smart Start Oklahoma created a comprehensive guide for new parents. The Parent Guide provides information about normal developmental phases of children birth through age three, gives numerous tips about caring for and communicating with children at each stage and includes facts about nutrition, the need for regular well child examinations and the importance of immunizations. The guides are distributed to new parents through hospitals across the state.

    Oklahoma State Department of Health offers web based parenting toolkit through their child guidance program. This series coupled with separate tips for parents offers parents a comprehensive parenting guide created by child development specialists.
